Angola is still in a very premature state of development, with challenges in solving the problems of environmental sanitation, hunger, poverty, among others.
Angola is still in a very premature state of development, with challenges in solving the problems of environmental sanitation, hunger, poverty, among others.

However, this does not mean that we cannot develop in a more sustainable way, using resources and energy rationally and compensating with ecological attitudes, to reduce impacts we have on the environment. Because every impact we have on the environment also ends up impacting ourselves.

    It is for this reason that it is essential that each of us adopt responsible and conscious habits, which despite being “small” can make a huge difference on the planet when added together.

Being ecological in Angola is a challenge, and there is no doubt about that. But every challenge also has alternatives and solutions. Being ecological means thinking twice before each action, and thinking consciously: Will this impact something or someone? In what way? Does it help or make it worse?

    The high rate of poverty, the lack of environmental education and few alternatives that create conditions and incentives for the population to behave more sustainably, are the main challenge for citizens in Angola. Still, here are some tips that any individual can adopt in their daily lives, to become a more ecological citizen:

Recycling

Despite being a hot topic, recycling is not a new process. Firstly, it is necessary to keep in mind that human beings have always produced waste.

We are going to leave some tips on the subject here, in order to inform those who know nothing about the subject and for those who already know, it never hurts to remember.

In short, we say that recycling is the reuse of waste in order to create or create a new product. It consists of transforming waste and discarded objects into raw materials to give rise to other usable objects or products.
Becoming more important with each passing day, this practice not only reduces the amount of waste, which is beneficial for our health, but also protects the environment by conserving raw materials and natural resources.
So that we can all do our part and set an example, here are some basic and simple tips that will help us preserve the environment.

<img src="https://destinobenguela.com/media/images/a_nao_perder_reciclagem/reciclagem1.png" style="width: 30%; margin-right: 10px; float: left;" <strong="">

1 - Separate waste by material.

                Separate waste by material. identifying the containers or buckets used for waste (Plastic, Paper, Glass and organic waste), placing each one in its proper place in order to identify what will or will not be recycled and facilitating the work of the collection staff.

<img src="https://destinobenguela.com/media/images/a_nao_perder_reciclagem/reciclagem2.jpg" style="width: 30%; margin-right: 10px; float: right;" <strong="">

2 - The use of organic waste

                It consists of using leftover food or the peels of some fruits to create other recipes or often as fertilizers, such as eggshells and some vegetables.

<img src="https://destinobenguela.com/media/images/a_nao_perder_reciclagem/reciclagem4.jpg" style="width: 30%; margin-right: 10px; float: left;" <strong="">

3 - Make use of objects

                Use objects such as plastic bottles and bags and many others for decoration, transforming them into vases, lamps, melting plastic to create cups, bowls, using glass bottles to preserve food, etc…

<img src="https://destinobenguela.com/media/images/a_nao_perder_reciclagem/reciclagem5.jpg" style="width: 30%; margin-right: 10px; float: right;" <strong="">

4 -Teach children about sustainable attitudes

                It is very important that these teachings are transmitted from a very early age and there is nothing better than using examples such as:

                -Buy only what you need, avoiding excessive consumption.
-Avoid plastic bags, preferring cloth or reusable bags.
-Try to fix damaged objects instead of discarding them.
-Whenever you can plant a tree, seek the strength to plant two.
-Donate clothes to the neediest families, avoiding discarding old or excess clothes or shoes.

We hope we helped.

Take care of yourself, your family and most importantly, take care of the environment.

June 8 - World Ocean Day

World Ocean Day was declared by the United Nations in Rio de Janeiro in 1992.
World Oceans Day was declared by the United Nations in Rio de Janeiro in 1992.
Since that date, it has been celebrated annually in an informal manner. The date began to be officially observed on June 8, 2009.

Ocean waters cover 71% of the Earth's surface and play an extremely important role in regulating life on the planet.
The oceans are a source of food, employment and income for millions of people around the world. Activities related to fishing, maritime transport and coastal tourism constitute important economic pillars for many countries, including Angola, whose extensive coastline represents enormous potential for sustainable development.

However, plastic pollution, overfishing, climate change and the destruction of natural habitats put marine life at risk. Every year, tons of waste end up in the sea, affecting species such as turtles, birds and marine mammals.
Rising water temperatures and ocean acidification also have serious consequences for ecosystems and for the communities that depend on them.
Protecting the oceans is not a task exclusive to environmental authorities. Small individual actions can make a difference, such as reducing the consumption of single-use plastics, participating in beach clean-up campaigns, choosing products from sustainable sources and promoting environmental education among younger generations.
Interactions between the ocean and the atmosphere influence the global climate. The oceans provide most of the oxygen we breathe, absorb carbon dioxide emissions and are economically important for countries that rely on tourism, fishing and other marine resources.

This date serves as an opportunity to raise global awareness about the current challenges faced by the international community in relation to the oceans.
Commemorating this date is important because the oceans are affected by criminal activities such as illegal drug trafficking, illegal fishing, unreported fishing, predatory fishing practices, the invasion of marine species and marine pollution.

In the 1970s, the world was facing increasingly evident problems related to air, water and soil pollution, the disorderly growth of cities, the degradation of natural resources and the impacts of accelerated industrialization.
In the 1970s, the world was facing increasingly evident problems related to air, water and soil pollution, the disorderly growth of cities, the degradation of natural resources and the impacts of accelerated industrialization.
On 5 June 1972, the United Nations Conference on the Human Environment began in Stockholm, Sweden, becoming the first conference to be exclusively dedicated to the environment.

This date came to be celebrated as World Environment Day.
The conference brought environmental debate into the international arena and produced the Declaration on the Human Environment, whose principles constituted the first non-binding international legislation on environmental matters.
It was also during this conference that the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) was established.

These factors further encouraged the adoption of environmental legislation at the national level, as well as the development and adoption of a series of international environmental treaties.

Furthermore, the opening date of the conference, 5 June, was later chosen by the United Nations to celebrate World Environment Day, which is commemorated annually around the world. This celebration seeks to raise awareness among governments, businesses and citizens about the importance of preserving ecosystems, biodiversity and natural resources for present and future generations.
On this date, people are encouraged to reflect on ways of acting at the local level so that more sustainable approaches to development can be implemented globally.

These approaches should make it possible to improve environmental quality and, consequently, the quality of life of present and future generations.
In Angola, activities focused on environmental education and awareness are organised on this date to promote the sharing of information about the benefits of adopting sustainable lifestyles.

July 26th – World Mangrove Day

It was established by UNESCO to raise awareness of this unique, vulnerable and essential coastal habitat.
Celebrated annually on July 26 (proclaimed by UNESCO in 2015), it highlights the importance of mangroves as unique, vulnerable, and vital ecosystems for coastal biodiversity, protection against erosion, climate change mitigation, and the livelihoods of local communities. Its main objective is to raise awareness of the urgent need to protect, restore, and sustainably manage mangroves, which are often threatened by coastal development.

Originally, mangroves are coastal ecosystems formed by trees adapted to saltwater, known as mangrove forests.
These natural formations develop in tropical and subtropical regions, where the meeting of the sea and rivers creates unique conditions for life.

Mangroves are considered one of the most important ecosystems on the planet due to their ability to protect coastal areas from erosion, reduce the impact of tides, and serve as nurseries for a wide variety of marine species, functioning as true natural "breeding grounds." Numerous species of fish, crustaceans (such as shrimp and crabs), and mollusks use this environment for reproduction and growth. This supports entire food chains and strengthens local fisheries.

Despite their importance, mangroves are under significant pressure due to:

Unplanned urban expansion;
Pollution;
Overexploitation of natural resources;
Climate change;

Therefore, more than a celebration, this day promotes awareness. It helps people understand that local actions, such as improper waste disposal or illegal land occupation, have a direct impact on these ecosystems.
This day serves as a reminder of the need to conserve these forests of intertwined roots, which act as guardians of the coastline, because without mangroves, we lose protection, food, biodiversity, and one of nature's most effective weapons against climate change.
