FEBRUARY 2 - WORLD WETLANDS DAY - Ambiente e Boas Praticas

World Wetlands Day was established in 1997 to mark the signing of the Convention on Wetlands of International Importance, in the Iranian City of Ramsar, on February 2, 1971.

It should be noted that the also known Ramsar Convention came into force in 1975.
The Ramsar Convention highlights the importance of wetlands for their biological, ecological, hydrological and economic value and for the important role they play in maintaining ecosystems and biodiversity.
Sometimes these areas are associated with cultural and religious aspects.
Regarding Angola, the Wetlands are located in the southeast region of the country, especially in the provinces of Bié, Kuando Kubango and Moxico.
The Republic of Angola adhered to the Ramsar Convention in 2013.

Several training and dissemination activities on Wetlands have been carried out with the aim of raising people's awareness of their importance and a national inventory on these areas is being prepared.
