Its graves, many of them built in stone and preserving features typical of old Boer cemeteries, recall the arrival of the families who, at the end of the 19th century, settled in this region, leaving a profound mark on agriculture, livestock farming and the development of the Huíla plateau.

The Boers’ connection to the Chela Mountains forms part of the region’s history. Coming from Southern Africa, they found favourable conditions for settlement on this plateau, establishing communities that contributed to the economic and social transformation of the territory. Capangombe, situated along one of the main access routes to the plateau, became part of this historical journey, still preserving traces that help to understand this important chapter in Angola’s history.

More than a place of remembrance, the Kapangombe cemetery represents historical and cultural heritage of great value, whose preservation helps to keep alive the identity of the Chela Mountains and of the communities that, over the centuries, have made this region a meeting place for different peoples and cultures.
