More than 50 thousand tourists visit Namibe in 10 months

Moçâmedes - More than 50,000 tourists of various nationalities visited the province of Namibe from January to October of this year, registering an increase of approximately 50% compared to the same period in 2024, according to the acting director of the Tourism and Culture office of this locality, Vladimir de Carvalho.

In statements to ANGOP, the official explained that the considerable increase in visitors to the province was due to the holding of several national and international events, most notably the Afrobasket/2025, where hotels had a 100% occupancy rate.
He explained that most tourists come from SADC countries, such as Namibia, Botswana, Zambia and South Africa, while from outside the continent, Russian, American, British, Indian, Mauritanian, Portuguese and Italian tourists stood out.
Regarding the most visited tourist attractions, Vladimir de Carvalho pointed to the Curoca hills, Lagoa do Arco, Welwitschia Mirabilis, and the lagoons of Piambo beach.

He also mentioned that the sector has seen gains in recent years, highlighting the opening of three new hotel units, the emergence of 12 travel agencies, 63 licensed tour guides, and the rise of associations in the sector.
“I want to highlight the reduction in travel time to Baía das Pipas, with the road now completed, the initiative for the international certification of the local airport, and the signage of tourist attractions,” he said.
He clarified that the province has 1,078 beds, four hotels, and 33 restaurants, and that, during certain periods of the year, restaurant services are unable to meet demand.

The acting director of the Tourism office acknowledged that investing in the tourism sector is profitable, in addition to providing employment opportunities, having employed 3,414 workers at the provincial level.
He added that there is great interest from foreign investors in exploring tourist attractions along the coast, citing as an example the recent presence of a group of Egyptian investors.
He further assured that domestic tourism has grown and is a reality in Namibe, explaining that citizens of the province are already interested in visiting the main local tourist attractions.

"This growth is forcing operators to improve their services in order to meet the demand from both national and foreign tourists," he concluded.
